This is my little brother. 20 years ago, he would have been called a bicycle repair man. These days, cycles are such complicated pieces of machinery, he is a mechanic. He's also good - very good. In a couple of weeks' time he'll be heading off to the US with the Dutch national off-road cycling team that's taking part in a world championship event. Immediately afterward, he'll be going to Canada with a private team participating in a world series event. I'm stupid proud of him. (c) Roger Overall 2010

I'm a child of the land and the water. The land dominates on my Dutch side, the water on my English. I grew up in the easternmost corner of the Netherlands. This is farming country and this is what farms used to look like round here. (c) Roger Overall 2010

This is what you get for €3.30 in Holland: coffee, slice of cake, sausage roll, small glass of cream and coffee liqueur. How's that for value for money? (c) Roger Overall 2010

My daughter is the driving force behind a video we’re shooting over the next couple of days. It’ll be something to do with cats. Or as she calls them: Crraaahaaazy cats.
She will likely take all of the lead roles.
That’s only fair. So far she has done all the pre-production work: designing and painting the cats.
Daddy has taken on more of an executive producer role – ie, I’m the money man.
Tomorrow I shall become the camera man, focus puller, and so on.
Madam will shine as lead and director.
It is rarely, I think, a good thing when the star directs themselves. Especially when they are five years old.
***UPDATE***
We filmed, edited and dubbed the film this morning. I’m fairly pleased. The star left the project halfway through due to creative differences and the fact that SpongeBob was on TV.
She came into my life at some unholy hour.
I should have been asleep. I’m glad I wasn’t.
Her eyes were pure silver and they stared at me from the cradle of my arms.
I get very emotional when I remember the first time I held her.
She is very special to me.
Today she is five years old.
This is how she watches television:
